The Golden Compass

We decided to put Look Me in the Eye on hold. The controversy swirling around the Golden Compass sparked our interest. We thought we would give it a look and come back to Look Me in the Eye a little later.

Look Me in the Eye

Our next selection is Look Me in the Eye. This book is written by a person that did not discover that he had Asperger's until he was an adult. I am sure it will prove interesting.

Various and Sundry

I would like to suggest a new thread. Why don't we comment on books that we read outside of our blog selections? Sometimes I have an opportunity to read a book in between our selections that I think you might be interested in reading - or I might not even like it and want you to not waste your money. Let's use this thread for those "extra" books.

Next Up-

Wandering through Books-A-Million I came up with three possibilities for our next selection - The Martian Child, The Devil in the Junior League, and Second Honeymoon. The first, The Martian Child, is about a child that has been in the foster system and has been categorized as "hard to place". The next, The Devil in the Junior League, sounds like it is hysterical. It is a "relationship" story but the sounds like it has a lot of laughs with some southern humor thrown in. The last, Second Honeymoon, is by Joanna Trollope. All the children leave home, the house is unnaturally quiet, mom wishes the children were back, and, guess what?, they all end up back home. You don't always want your wishes to come through. (I think this is my dream/nightmare...)

Take your pick - what are you feeling up to? Discuss it amongst yowa selves...

Next Book is......

We're branching out and trying Nobel prize winning literature this time! Our next read is Love in the Time of Cholera by Gabriel Garcia Marquez. It looks to be a thought provoking read though not an easy one. We can do it 'cause we're strong, proud and educated despite what some folks think!

Round Two...

On to the next book! I have a few suggestions. I just read Good Grief by Lolly Winston. She has another book out - Happiness Sold Separately. It deals with a difficult topic - a troubled marriage. Another idea - Love in the Time of Cholera by Gabriel Garcia Marquez. It won a Nobel Prize and is on Oprah's Book List. It is a love story but I don't know much else about it. The third choice - Crisis by Robin Cook. He writes medical mysteries.

I am voting for the first - Happiness Sold Separately. What do you think?

The Book is In - Let's Start Talkin'

Lorna Landvik has a host of characters in Tall Pine Polka. Her style of writing reminds me of the style of the series about the Episcopal priest and his wife. Landvik's characters are a little extreme but you might think of someone in your own town that is a little "out there". What are your first thoughts?

Book suggestion

What about Lorna Landvik's The Tall Pine Polka? After all, her Angry Housewives is the inspiration for our book club.
