Look Me in the Eye

Our next selection is Look Me in the Eye. This book is written by a person that did not discover that he had Asperger's until he was an adult. I am sure it will prove interesting.

I think every educator should read this book. I was ashamed of the times I got angry at children over the years that would not look me in the eye. This is just one of the social issues that a child (or adult) with Asperger's may face.

John Robison tells of growing up with undiagnosed Asperger's Syndrome. At times, the story was painful but John has a wonderful sense of humor and tells many stories of pranks he pulled through the years.

As an educator, this story opened my eyes to the difficulties of special needs children. John lets you know that, as an adult, he still struggles with the challenges of Asperger's. He also proves why we need to go the extra mile to help special needs children fit into society. John owns his own business and is very successful through his own doing. Educators can help ease the way for these kids by reading John's story.
