A very easy read....enjoyed it....especially the people who inhabit this story.....it is not my favorite Chevalier book but I do recommend it.

I thoroughly enjoyed this story of eighteenth century England. The story gives us a glimpse into the lives of a family of chairmakers. They move from the rural English countryside to London. We get to see the good and the bad of big city life - entertainment, work for tradesmen, and work for factory workers. We also see the harsh realities of poverty during that era.

I agree with friend "lee",this is probably not my favorite Chevalier book but I found it very enjoyable.
