Next Up-

Wandering through Books-A-Million I came up with three possibilities for our next selection - The Martian Child, The Devil in the Junior League, and Second Honeymoon. The first, The Martian Child, is about a child that has been in the foster system and has been categorized as "hard to place". The next, The Devil in the Junior League, sounds like it is hysterical. It is a "relationship" story but the sounds like it has a lot of laughs with some southern humor thrown in. The last, Second Honeymoon, is by Joanna Trollope. All the children leave home, the house is unnaturally quiet, mom wishes the children were back, and, guess what?, they all end up back home. You don't always want your wishes to come through. (I think this is my dream/nightmare...)

Take your pick - what are you feeling up to? Discuss it amongst yowa selves...

I finished The Martian Child. It was a quick read. This was a very heart-felt story - I teared up a number of times. Having worked with children in my classroom with similar problems, I felt for anyone taking on those problems 24/7.

I was going to say I'd like to read The Martian Child but since you've read it....let me think about the other two....we may have to just start back after the holidays.

I have another possibility for you - The Accidental Mother. It is about a woman that unexpectedly ends up raising her best friend's child.

I also just read Savannah Blues. It is a murder mystery with a little Southern humor thrown in. The main character is an antique "picker". Her mother calls her a dumpster diver. There is a relationship added as a side note. It is hard to totally get away from relationships.

You need to read The Martian Child anyway. I thought about the children you worked with at the summer camp. It makes you realize that happy endings come with a lot of hard work.

New idea - Look Me in the Eye: My Life with Asperger's. (This book is about the brother of Augusten Burroughs = Running with Scissors.) Robison was not diagnosed with Asperger's until he was an adult. Would this be a better book for right now?
